{"id":10,"count":63,"description":"Karate is a martial art that originated from the Ryukyu Kingdom, now known as Okinawa, Japan. It was developed from the indigenous Ryukyuan martial arts under the influence of Kung Fu, particularly Fujian White Crane. Karate is now predominantly a striking art using punching, kicking, knee strikes, elbow strikes, and open-hand techniques such as knife-hands, spear-hands, and palm-heel strikes. In the early 20th century, Gichin Funakoshi, an Okinawan karate practitioner, played a significant role in introducing karate to the Japanese mainland. He simplified and synthesized the various karate traditions of Okinawa and developed the Shotokan style. His efforts led to the popularization of karate and its recognition as a martial art across Japan. After World War II, karate became popular among servicemen stationed in Japan and Okinawa, and they introduced the martial art to the United States. In the 1970s, karate became part of the global martial arts culture, with the first World Karate Championships held in 1970.","link":"https:\/\/www.dojoscore.com\/history-of-karate\/","name":"History of Karate","slug":"history-of-karate","taxonomy":"category","parent":0,"meta":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dojoscore.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories\/10"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dojoscore.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dojoscore.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/taxonomies\/category"}],"wp:post_type":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.dojoscore.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts?categories=10"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
