Hung Ga
What is Hung Ga?
A no-nonsense style that focuses on conditioned and strong arms and legs. Excels in close in work, heavy emphasis on using the forearms, hands and elbows. Legs are used for low kicks, sweeps, stomps, knees, and take downs.
Evasive footwork and angling play a large role as one gets more advanced in Hung.
A very hard style with a philosophy of aggression and forward momentum. Positive characteristics include: Almost all blocks are also strikes. Snap-like rotations in almost all strikes/blocks, adding power. Intense training forcing you to get low and use legs for arm strikes. Well developed and varied hand technique. Focuses on strengthening arms using training regimen and herbal applications. Negative characteristics include: Little time spent learning kicks, not many kicks to learn. Not focused on dodging, required physical strength to excel- not good for fighting larger opponents.
